Proposals for the unfolding of a happier day

Hello! I hope you are enjoying your day.  In this blog post I’m sharing 3 daily rituals that help me maintain happiness throughout my day.

lotus Upon waking, before checking emails or phone messages I take some time to sit quietly by myself. I make a cup of tea then sit on my meditation cushion in my yoga room. I light a few candles and set my timer for the # of minutes I’d like sit for. Meditation is an ancient powerful practice. Meditation is so frequently spoken about these days, do you ever wonder why millions of people make sitting (in meditation) each day a priority? Sitting clears your mind, helps you feel more focused, melts away emotional pain over time and MUCH more. Personally, I am willing to give up 15-30 minutes each day for benefits like that, it works.  I have been committed to my daily meditation practice for 16 years now and this practice has become absolutely invaluable.

lotus After meditation I take 1-2 minutes and go over in my mind what I appreciate in and about my life. I know we hear this statement tossed around a lot out there but again, why is that? because it has an invaluable teaching we can all benefit from if we are willing to be curious enough about it. Try to feel at ease with the way your life is going right now. You may want your life to look different than it is i.e.: more money, a new place to live, to travel more, a new job or to be in better physical shape. The trick to really having what you want is to first be able to HONESTLY feel grateful and fully pleased with your life exactly the way that it is.  If you can truly feel happy inside about your life as it is, only then will you be able to create more that you are happy about. When we understand that everything is energy, it will be easy to see why dropping resistance is necessary in order to allow what we wish to come towards us.

lotus Avoid drama. Drama comes in all forms and includes complaining even the smallest bit about the traffic, weather, a friend or family member. I know this is a tough one and I still find myself getting caught up in it too, but I have noticed that the times I choose to not complain and or fuel the complaints of others by responding just as they are, I feel way better. The thing is, we often say “this isn’t a complaint, it’s just what I noticed or how I felt” same thing! you are still saying something that serves no purpose but for you to vent, right? that’s drama.

Having friends that will listen to your complaints may be a nice or comforting thing, but they aren’t helping you change this habit of creating drama. Remember that no matter how small the complaint or unnecessary comment, that is drama.  When we spend time speaking words that describe a past and finished situation, there is no presence, power or upliftment  in it for you or the person you are sharing it with. Eckhart Tolle says when we complain and share it with others, we are (energetically) polluting our own and their world as well, when I first read that it made me realize that I don’t want to do that to someone else. Everything is energy including our words & thoughts. Energy has a momentum, what you focus on expands and so the more you talk to one friend and then the next and then think/edit what happened in your mind you will continue to do that for days, weeks and even years, because where we focus our thoughts our energy gathers and builds.

In closing the above I have shared today is why I write and speak so much about wisdom techniques and practices. Meditation and spiritual practices of your own choice will gradually cleanse your mind and in time (if you commit daily) you will have little or no tolerance for listening to people spew mindless garbage. You will also notice how much more energy you will have.
