Help yourself out

Yesterday I was helping out a friend with some computer work. She just landed this wicked job and her new boss had sent her a lengthy list of websites she needed to upload A LOT of information onto. I offered to help out because she really struggles with computer lingo and tends to avoid this sort of work when it comes up, then at crunch time she’s a frantic mess, plus it’s a nice thing to do 🙂 .

As she got started I just puttered around my apartment doing some other things ‘being on stand by’ when she would make the sound that told me she needed a hand. As the hours passed I witnessed her frustration come and go and at one point as she reached her peak, she was about to walk away from it all,not for good but just for now. So here’s the thing…I said as gently as I could to her “you are being challenged, can you see this? yes, you can step away now, or you can take a few deep inhales and decide to take a look at this through another lens. Either way, this peak will rise inside of you again and again, until you chose to ride it out and ah….yes, this is when you will have changed your relationship with something that used to make you feel like a lunatic.” In the end, she persisted and continued probably more so because she simply had a deadline and needed to get this done.

Today when I woke up I was reflecting on yesterday and it occurred to me. When challenges present themselves, we are not always ready and what honestly happens, is that our conditioning rises up and washes over us so quickly, it takes over and we are held in this prison of severe annoyance (or whatever other emotion) that we have no clue of how to get out. Perhaps what would be helpful is to become aware when we are about to chose a task, situation or even see someone that we know often triggers us? It’s like taking a step back and rather than ‘setting up’ the same scenario, we could ‘set up’ a new one. If I know for example that uploading files and computer work gets under my skin, I could set an intention first, before I start like “I am open to having a new experience this time doing this work” or “I’m getting better at this sort of work, it gets easier all the time” or “this is going to work out great, I’m excited about doing this, what if it’s super fun?” Why not help yourself out? These new positive thoughts now immediately DROP THE ENERGY of the old way of being and doing things, now you can enjoy this kind of work or task.

Things, situations, rush hour traffic always ‘appear’ to look the same…unless they don’t. If other people can change the way they look at things, you can too and when you do, the things you look at will change. Hope this helps, thanks for reading, Lara.
