Nudges & Impulses

Hello everyone! I sincerely hope this latest blog post finds you well. I realize I have not published a post in many weeks and interestingly todays topic is about just that…why haven’t I?

I’m sure you have heard the term ‘impulse’ or maybe more so ‘nudge’ before. Often these words are referred to as feelings we get which really inspire us to take action in a particular direction or on a specific project.  Do you have your own thoughts or ideas about where those feelings come from?  These are mine:

Just over a month ago, I married my love. As the weeks before the big day dramatically quickened, I found myself writing my morning pages each day but no blog posts were inspired during those weeks, until now.  Just this morning I was thinking about times I feel inspired to take action in my life and times that I don’t.

Yesterday for example was Sunday, usually a day off in my world.  I think since I’d been away for over 2 weeks on my honeymoon and felt behind on my work, I began to think that ‘I ought to do some work’. After about 15 minutes into working on a particular task, I just felt SO NOT into it. I said to myself out loud “now this is classic trying to make something happen behaviour” and then I laughed. I closed my lap top and chose something else to do that was actually fun and once I did I immediately feel lighter and happier.

“Thinking” I should do some work rather than “feeling” the impulse to do so reminded yesterday that there is a natural flow to life and all circumstances. Everything unfolds in a timely manner if we will only allow it, and that requires us to slow down and notice how we are feeling.  I have experienced this flow before.  I find that when I just do my work each day without loads of “I have to make this happen, get this all done today” type of thinking, things just fall into place beautifully. Even better, the more I relax and enjoy each day of work, the more I begin to feel impulses to do what most needs to be done, I am more efficient and I get to where I want to be sooner.

The Universe knows what you want, you share your thoughts with it every time you think them. The best way to efficiently do your work is to relax and enjoy it. Pushing ourselves is using mental energy which can completely stress us out and drain our bodies leaving us vulnerable to illness. The energy of the Universe is the feeling of being inspired, nudged or pulled, that is the time to act.  The Universe will give you a nudge when it’s time to make a particular call or in the case of my writing, write about this topic. I was inspired to share this story with you and as always I hope it’s of some benefit for at least one of my readers. If I had told myself over the past several weeks “I have to publish a blog because my followers expect it” I would be causing myself stress and I would not have been able to share anything that would be worthy of inspiring or benefiting you.

I believe many of us push ourselves out of fear of not making it, or not being successful. If we can trust and allow each day to unfold in a way that feels fluid to us, we will be happier, healthier, more successful and efficient.

Thanks very much for reading, till next time, Lara

  1. Beautifully written Lara, and very timely for me since I recently got nudged by the
universe that it was time to do something. I am now in the process of doing that which
was nudged and it is working beautifully.
