in this blog post I am going to share all about the 5 tibetan exercises, why they are one of my top wisdom techniques & practices I teach and recommend to my clients and yoga students. Wisdom techniques and practices are specific ritual practices that you integrate into your life on a daily basis for a recommended period of time. These practices may be mental, emotional, physical or spiritual and their purpose is to uproot and dissolve old beliefs that have held you back. Daily practices guide you toward transitioning into and experiencing the best version of yourself possible. In the case of the 5 Rites, for me they are a long term daily practice that I choose to include in my life as often as possible and here’s why:
The 5 tibetans also known as ‘the fountain of youth’ are over 2,500 years old. They represent a system of exercise that affect the mental, emotional and physical bodies. The tibetans claim that these exercises activate and stimulate the seven key chakras (energy centres) that in turn stimulate all the glands of the endocrine system. The endocrine system is responsible for the body’s overall functioning and aging process. The Five Rites influence the functioning of all your organs and systems, including the physical and energetic systems and that includes the aging process.
I love the magical 5 tibetans because they work. If you commit, they provide. The benefits of these exercises can be felt from the first time you do them and increase over days, months and years. I think of this daily practice as a ‘maintaining youth’ practice. While a regular yoga practice will stimulate our organs, energy centres and keep us flexible, the 5 rites have a stronger and deeper effect on the body’s entire energetic system. These are strong, powerful poses that are done with a cleansing breath.
At some point in our lives we will go to do something that we have always done and feel compromised physically to do it. A daily 5 tibetans practice will allow you to continue to do what you have always done and will additionally keep your organs functioning optimally. We will all feel out of whack at various points in our lives, repeatedly. The cause for feeling off centre is at the core energetically based. Everything is energy, our thoughts, feelings & actions. A mental, emotional or physical circumstance we identify with causes us to feel a particular way which in turn causes our energy to shift in a particular way. The 5 tibetan exercises continually re-align our energy through out the body, thus providing long term overall stability and clarity.
My top reasons for doing this practice daily are for these benefits because they make me feel so good:
circulates steady flow of energy in the body
regulates hormone production
releases mental/emotional heaviness
take less than 10 minutes
I can do them anywhere/travel
make me feel empowered and strong
strengthen my bones/muscles/joints
clear my mind
cleanse my lungs
it’s the long term benefits to my organs/glands and brain that really keep me doing them.
I learned these magical exercises from my yoga teacher over 12 years ago. I teach a workshop on these exercises every 2 months in Vancouver, BC.
